I've been meaning to write a review for a while, but I'm glad I waited. Putting more miles on my saddle has just reinforced my first impression. When I bought my little mule in December, I knew I didn't want to ride her unless she had something on her back that fit. Proceed, me going down the rabbit hole of saddle company's that actually adhere to ethics of equine comfort I agreed with, and putting riders in a classic biomechanically correct position! When I research something, I get IN to it and here I stumble on a company that literally checked every box for science based saddle fit and comfort for rider and equine. My saddle took a mere 9 weeks from order to completion. Staci helped me with dimensions in such a knowledgeable way. I've had my saddle for 4 months now. I use it on my mule, which it fits beautifully. The first time I put ït on her and lunged her in it, she had the craziest emotional releases. I don't think she'd ever worn a saddle that didn't hurt her. I also use it on multiple other mules at the pack station I work at. It fits them all better than any saddle I've ever seen for a mule. I ride in it for hours every day and I have to say I have never ever been in such a comfortable saddle. It pretty much forces you to have a neutral, effective pelvis and leg. My back never hurts, my legs never hurt. It's narrow in the seat for beautiful communication. It's light and easy to carry and throw. Im pretty much a big fan. I got the saddle Thursday and it fits both me and my horse well. After short rides at home Thursday and Friday I rode it on an 8 mile ride on Saturday, no dry spots. So I thought I'd send pictures with the friend who bought my old Allegeny saddle.

This is my second beautiful saddle made by Allegheny. These saddles are high quality at an extremely fair price! When my saddle from my last horse did not fit my new horse, Allegheny gave me more than a fair trade in value for it! To say that their customer service is phenomenal is an understatement, Staci & Kate are top notch when it comes to serving their customers and never leave anything unanswered (and I ask a LOT of questions!). In short, I will never go anywhere else for my saddle needs and recommend Allegheny to everyone that I know!

From the moment I set the saddle on Charlie, he stood still and did not brace for cinching. This past year, he has been avoiding being caught and has been visibly irritated to be cinched up or have the saddle even swung over him. He was cranky when I got the new saddle set to swing over but as soon as it landed on his back, he gave a sigh of relief! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a saddle settle right on a horse and stay in place immediately. I lunged him to start and he was carrying himself long and low, stretched through his back. Today, I took him out in the snow for an hour long ride through the fields. I was SO comfortable! My back has been in pain for over a year with a slipped disc issue and a very painful hip. From the moment I settled up there, I was “put” into a very correct position, my hip was comfortable, and my back had no pain. We trotted all over and try as I may,(due to my lack of balance) I couldn’t force my body out of the correct position! This made for a VERY willing horse. He usually fusses and refuses to trot off when first asked. Today, he willingly moved out and never asked to break back down to a walk. To say that I am pleased, is an understatement. The level of comfort on the very first ride for both Charlie and myself was amazing! The only down-side; when your young horse feels good under saddle, then he gets a bit spry and tries a few antics that he couldn’t try before. 🙂 I was riding with my mother this morning who said, “Well, he has a new outfit, not a new personality!”. LOL. Thank you again for all of the hard work you put into making sure I got the exact right fit for both Charlie and myself! It was worth every dime and every minute of time. Now, all I have to do is put all of those other saddles up for sale. I’ve got the only one I’ll ever need now.

Hi, ladies. The saddle made it safely and I wasted no time trying it out. Evie and I are very impressed! I rode today in a looser girth than I normally would, and the saddle wouldn't shift even when I tried - unheard of in the 12 years I've been riding my round girl. It seems to fit like a glove and looks wonderful. Very comfortable for me as well. I can't wait to get out on the trails. Thank you both so much for all your help finally giving her the saddle she needs for optimal performance and comfort.

I never wrote you all back to say how much I LOVE my saddle! I rode in it all summer, pack trips in the Pasayten and Alpine Lakes Wilderness, clinics, equine trail sports competitions. Lots of compliments, many people sat in it and told me how balanced it felt and everyone who tries it loves the turn of the stirrups. My horse and I both love our new Allegheny saddle. It was well worth the wait. Not only is it beautiful, it fits my horse like a glove. I’m absolutely in love with my Allegany Saddle! The whole process of fitting and designing it was seamless and easy. Bring new to western saddles after a life in English, Kate was available for all of my questions about all the options and the “why” behind them. The craftsmanship took about 6 months from first call to finish, but I always received same day updates when I was anxiously checking in progress. It was worth the wait! It shipped beautifully and was butter soft and broken in out of the box. Most importantly, it fit my horse like a glove, and will keep him comfortable over long, hilly trails. I just have to say this. I’m a native Texan 6th generation or more if you believe the stories :-), and have been around horses and saddles and all things western my entire life, but it astonishes me that I had to go to New York to get a saddle with all the characteristics for which I’d been looking. There are many saddlemakers down here, and none are cheap or unskilled, but they better step up their game if they are going to continue to compete with the likes of AMTS. Hey guys,rnJust wanted to thank you so much for my wonderful saddle. I really can’t get over how well made and beautiful it is. Its far superior to the last “custom” saddle I had from another company that cost more and never really fit my horse. This one fits Moose, fits me and looks fabulous without being too flashy/blingy. The amazing craftsmanship speaks for itself. I could sit around and stare at it all day…too bad I can’t stare at it while I’m in it…but everyone else can enjoy looking at it going down the trail. And its so light! Moose seems very happy with it. It stays put without a tight girth or breast collar and doesn’t interfere with his big shoulders. The minute I first sat in it the difference from my old saddle was apparent. This one fits ME too. No more sore knees and hips. And no more bulky leather between me and the horse. Staci and Melinda,rnMy new saddle arrived last Thursday night. It is just beautiful – my non-horsey husband declared it a “work of art”. But as you know, beauty isn’t enough, and it must perform. Going into this process I had 3 goals:rn- a lighter weight saddle than my old trail saddlern- a more comfortable seat for mern- and with the above, a saddle that fit my horse well (can’t sacrifice his comfort for mine!)rnAfter 3 rides in the saddle, covering a total of ~ 20 miles, I am delighted to tell you that both of us are loving the saddle! It fits him perfectly – we have ridden up and down steep hills, and that saddle stays in place perfectly. We have gaited and galloped in it – I love the close contact feel with no flap under my leg – the trim fenders are wonderful. The English style billets are perfect with that Toklat girth. The 16.5” seat is working just fine for me – no pressure on my non-bending spine – and the seat itself is so darn comfy – no sore “tender bits” for me! Oh, and having the Texas twist done on the stirrups is fabulous – I love that I didn’t have to do the “broom thing” before riding in it – this saddle was trail ready right out of the box!rnAs for Romeo, he has plenty of room in the shoulder to gait beautifully – his ears are up at every gait and he is raring to go. I got to go for a pretty good ride yesterday!!! Extremely happy, we were able to go into the canter from a walk and he kept the pace and I was completely balanced! Amazing as it’s been awhile since I’ve had a good gallop on him 🙂 I’ve gone through a few saddles and one “custom” saddle with no luck, pinching/sliding back/pads moving all over the place/extremely unbalanced ride I’ve had it all lol!! I didn’t think I should settle or just deal, I knew there had to be something I could find!!! And in my search I finally found Allegany Mountain Trail Saddles!!rnI’m so happy I’ve finally found my dream saddle!!! And I am so thrilled it is so light I have no issues lifting it up on him (he’s 17hh). Fits him like a glove!! I have a Gypsy Vanner…That I went through 9 saddles in a year and a half. Not one fit him. One saddle fitter of 50 years came out and tried to fit him…and literally laughed out loud when he saw him. He is a propane tank on legs. He said to me “i have access to 2000 saddles and I don’t have one that will fit him”.rnI ended up riding him bareback for close to 2 years because he was miserable in every saddle…or they just rolled off of him at the walk.rnThe amazing thing about Allegany Mountain Trail Saddles is that they send you a series of 9-11 trees to try on your horse before building the saddle. Just the tree…no leather or any rigging. What an eye opening experience. It really shows you how badly “off the rack” saddles fit most horses…forget hard to fit horses.rnThey ended up making a custom tree for my boy…and it fits like a glove. It is amazingly stable and for the first time I have a saddle that doesn’t roll off at the walk. My new saddle arrived last night and I got to try it out today. Firstly, it is just so beautiful and perfect! It’s exactly what I had envisioned! Secondly, the moment I sat in it–on the saddle stand right out of the box, it felt perfectly made for me. Just my size!! The seat padding, seat size and twist—all just right. When I got on my mare, again, it felt just so right. Honestly , for the first time in my whole life (and I’ve been riding since I was 10), my legs hang right where they are supposed to–directly under me. No more constantly pushing them back under me when I have to post. No chair seat. I absolutely love every single thing about this beautiful work of art! Staci,rnrnI wanted to take a few moments and give you some feedback about my saddle. I purchased the Cascade Wade saddle from you and received it just before Thanksgiving. When I read reviews of things on the Internet I take into consideration what is being reviewed. If it is something that should last for a while and is used repeatedly then I tend to ignore the reviews that are submitted upon receipt of the item (with the exception of the initial impression of quality/appearance) because these items should stand the test of time/use. Consequently this email as I have had a couple months of riding time now to properly assess the saddle.rnrnTo state it in a one liner, I like the saddle more the more I ride it. As stated after receipt, the quality (craftsmanship/appearance) is excellent and that statement is every bit as true today as it was when I took the saddle out of the box. It seems to be more comfortable every time I ride. Every bit as important as the comfort is how well it fits me and provides me with stability. Like many, I finally turned to AMTS after several unsuccessful attempts to find a saddle that actually fit my 16 yr old Haflinger gelding. Saddles would seem to fit but they didn’t. They pinched his shoulders and inevitably started slipping to the side. The gullet was too narrow and the tree pitch too steep. Bigger saddles were just too big. AMTS great website convinced me to try a custom saddle and not just a custom saddle. There is a lot to learn about fitting a saddle to your horse. Even so, Staci and Melinda guided me through the process. Besides being highly experienced they are real patient. The custom saddle fitting kit is the place to start and I imagine many clients can find the tree they need from the forms. After so many misses I wanted to be sure. AMTS has finished trees that you can also request and I went through a few of these. A little time consuming but well worth it. I finally found the proper tree and Staci suggested a small modification. Finally I had a tree that a saddle could be built on and 99% sure it will actually work. So I ordered two saddles, a Renegade Endurance and a Western. Then it was deciding on all the wonderful options. One can only imagine how long that took me. Once I placed my order for two saddles they were delivered amazingly quick. The craftsmanship is awesome and the leather they use is superb. No breaking in a stiff saddle for me or the horse. The stirrup leathers are turned perfectly. I am extremely happy that I found Staci, Melinda and AMTS. I actually enjoyed the process of determining a correct fit and learned a lot which also made it worthwhile. AMTS website and FB has so many photos of beautiful saddles and everyone of them is unique. Truly an enjoyable process ending with the saddle my horse and and I always wanted. I highly recommend AMTS.

rnIt’s been a few months since we received the saddle and I haven’t had a chance to let you know how it is working out for us. I apologize for the delayed response, but I’ve been busy testing this saddle to make sure it’s as good fit as it is beautiful! It is! My horse is a teeth grinder, not once has he grind his teeth with this saddle on! He is a “beefy” guy and not many saddles has fit him, my trainer also says this is the best fit he’s had! We’ve been to the beach, many trail rides and hours in the arena, I LOVE it! I chose the slick seat and was worried it might take some time getting used to…not once have I been sore! We are also getting tons of compliments on how gorgeous it is, the quality of the workmanship is outstanding! I would highly recommend Allegany Mountain Trail Saddles to anyone! Thank you!

Phone:rnrnWell, this is long overdue. I have been riding in my fabulous new saddle and accessories for several months, and love them all! First of all, Melinda, you were so patient with all of my questions and concerns, and helpful beyond words in making all the selections. The saddle fits me in the same way that my dressage saddle does…it is close contact and very comfortable. My mare seems very comfortable in it. That saddle is already well used. We began doing some extreme trail work the day after the saddle arrived, meaning we went through deep ponds right away. And of course, I put 10 or more hours of trail miles on my horse each week. As spectacular as the saddle looks, I really wanted a saddle that was comfortable for me and for my mare, and one that would take all the “abuse” from working rides. And that is exactly what I got. It is beautiful and so wonderfully functional. I LOVE it!!!! Thank you!!

I have had this saddle one week now…Took two trail rides, one in very steep country, I couldn’t be happier with this saddle! My mare moves out freely, such a difference! Carol Higgsrnrn I had to write another comment…this saddle is more then pretty. I ride some steep terrain, Bella can move better now that her withers and shoulders are freed up. It’s pretty steep in places so we let the horse decide what is best for climbing, her trot and canter up hill has smoothed out, she can get up the hill easier because of it. Getting older it is sure easier on the back and hips when the horse is comfortable we both are! Well done Allegany!

I had offered my Andalusian 3 different well made saddles. He refused them all with head bobbing, kicking his belly, objecting to cinch being tightened, refusing to go forward, groaning loudly, and trembling at the mounting block. Once I submitted my order arrangements were made for the saddle fit forms to be sent. After review of photos and videos an AW tree was recommended. There were so many options I’m sure I tested their patience but I finally chose the Kydaho Rancher. I also sent pictures of some vintage style tapaderos I liked. They were faithfully recreated. My saddle was made very timely, about 9-10 weeks, so I didn’t miss a lot of riding. After a couple of weeks using my new saddle my horse’s avoidance and fear behaviors went away. I tried the saddle on my Kiger Mustang just because I still had it in the barn. His occasional head bobbing and peculiar neck arching behavior under saddle disappeared and it wasn’t even made for him. My horses are much happier! I am happy too because the seat is so deep and secure and I feel very close to my horse. This is good because I’m of an age where falling off is a bad idea. Did I mention it’s pretty? And easy to put up on my 16 hand horse? It’s black with a touch of silver studs. I call it my Hi Ho Silver saddle because my gray Andalusian looks so much like the Lone Ranger’s Silver while wearing it . I strongly recommend Allegany Mountain Trail Saddles.

I purchased my first custom made wade tree saddle from Allegany trail saddles and I am very pleased with it. Staci and Melinda were so nice and pleasant and they really aimed to please me. They were very patient and i received my saddle in a very timely manner. I am so pleased and impressed with the final product and I am very impressed with the quality and craftsmanship. It is a true piece of art and I highly recommend these fine people to anyone looking for a great custom saddle at a reasonable price!

Staci, an experienced equestrian herself, does everything in her power to make sure that each Allegany Mountain Trail Saddle truly fits the horse. Having so many saddle forms (trees) to choose from and being able to request additional design enhancements makes a huge difference in creating a correctly fitting saddle for your horse. My gaited horse has big shoulders and a very short back. His new saddle fits him perfectly and is completely comfortable for me too! The craftsmanship in the saddle from tree to finished product is excellent especially for the price. Turn around time to have a saddle made is quite reasonable. Staci and Melinda are very responsive and patient – good customer service.

I love my saddle! Stacie was very patient with trying different trees for my hard to fit gelding making sure the tree did not bridge. I then tried different saddles so we made sure my ride was comfortable. We talked about the twisted Stirrup Leathers so my knees would not hurt. We discussed having part of it rough-out because my gelding can be very hard to ride when his energy is up. She was very patient. I would DEFINITELY buy another saddle from Allegany Saddles! rnEveryone here is so patient and kind through the saddle fitting process and after! They sent me a bunch of Saddle molds and one saddle tree to try on my horse. I proceeded to take many pictures and videos for them to make sure when they created my beautiful saddle it would fit perfectly! I can’t tell you how many Western saddles I’ve been through and then I said to heck with it I’m having one custom-made. I stumbled upon this company on the Internet and although I’ve never heard of it Them before I decided to take a risk! I wish I done this year’s ago. The saddle is a perfect fit! I finally got to test out my new saddle and I am beyond impressed. The attention to detail not only in the saddle but in the fitting of the horse. I had an awful experience with a previous fitter and saddle company and was hesitant to try another one. However, Allegheny was completely different from the start. They took the time to check different trees and how they moved on my horse while she walked (something the previous company never did). I did some steep hills and jumps this weekend and my saddle never moved or slipped down onto my horse’s shoulders. I also was comfortable all weekend and never felt like I was being pitched forward, like I have felt in previous saddles. I absolutely love my saddle. My Morgan proved hard to fit, but Staci and Melinda kept at it until it was perfect. The freedom my gelding has is amazing, what a difference. He can actually bend! He’d turn like a 2×4 before but now he can actually get an arc to his body. His back looks perfect after a ride, completely smooth, no ruffles or ripples. He’s relaxed. And the saddle is great for me, too. Puts me in perfect alignment. It’s so comfortable, love the inlaid seat. I can’t say enough good things about it.

Brugger is a Gypsy- 6 years old- and has a very unique shape that is hard to fit- we trail ride in our saddle and show in it- all over the country at Gypsy shows- and just love it!

rnI just want to say what a Godsend it was when I hooked up with Allegany Saddles! I had spent literally thousands of dollars trying to find a saddle that allowed me to use my legs on my horse. I’m short , 5,1” and when I sat on my horse my legs would splay out and even using long shanked spurs I couldn’t effectively communicate with him. I had a Miller saddle, Specialized Saddles(both their Eurolight and trail models), two Bighorn Saddles and even went with an El Companaro bareback saddle in search of a good seat and leg fit. Wasn’t until I received my Allegany that I finally felt like could really communicate with Charlie, my legs hung down straight and my seat just felt right! On the extra plus side you made it as light weight as you could so my old arthritic hands could swing it on his back!!! I just can’t thank you enough for being there for me! I have a just turned four MissouriFoxtrotter that will be getting a saddle from you hopefully next year if he has filled out by then. Thanks again, you all are the best!!

Hi Staci,rnrnJust got through with my fourth ride in the Awesome, Exquisite, and Beautiful Kydaho Rancher Saddle specially made for Sofia and me! I have about five hours of riding time and this is the first ever saddle that stays in place on her- doesn’t go forward up onto her shoulders and the saddle tree fits her perfectly- it seems she has never been more comfortable. Also, the saddle is just the right length for her very short back- doesn’t ride on her loin area like all the other saddles did. I definitely tested the saddle… rode her out- up and down hills, loped, trotted, and did lateral work- saddle never moved and she moved way better than usual. She kept her head straight while trotting- where in the past she would move her head back and forth.rnrnI had to adjust my body to the wider saddle tree- I know the saddle was made as narrow as possible by the saddle maker- but the X saddle tree with 1/4 inch extra spread with flare for her wide shoulders was needed for Sofia. It made the saddle a bit wider than I am used to compared to a saddle with Full Quarter Horse Bars. It took my third ride for me to adapt my body- but now I am very comfortable riding in my AMTS. I definitely give you and your company a 5 plus rating for customer service, saddle quality and fit for both horse and rider. I’ve been riding in my new saddle for a couple of weeks. Not as much as I’d like due to the horrendously hot weather… but I’ve snuck some rides in. I was looking at the saddle with a critical eye. rn Something that would give me a reason not to like it. I’m happy to say I CAN’T FIND A REASON!!!!!!!!!! This saddle is like sitting on a couch. A nice broken in comfy couch that you never want to get off of. I’ve had multiple people get on and every single one of them has commented how nice and comfortable it is.rn Not only is it comfortable for me, I truly think my horse can tell a difference with how it fits him. He no longer steps away from me when he sees me carrying a saddle. Huge difference. I never thought that I’d buy a saddle I couldn’t sit in first and make sure it “fit.” You are the exception to that rule. The quality is as amazing as the fit. Yesterday, I rode in my new Allegany Endurance Renegade for the first time and it was a dream ride. Not only did it fit my pony perfectly – it fit me perfectly as well. rn We went for a trail ride and the saddle was so comfortable for both of us. Hi Kate and Staci, rnrnI received my saddle on Thursday and when I opened the box I was amazed with the quality of the saddle. I rode in it for the first time today and it fits Precious and I perfectly. I was able to feel every step she took, it put me in the correct position as soon as I sat down too. The saddle is not only beautiful but it is a perfect fit for Pro. He even dropped his head in relaxation when I put the saddle on for the first time. Staci, rnI have had the saddle for almost two weeks and have used it about five times and with the first ride I knew my mare loved it. I ride on trails that are varied in terrain and go up and down steep hills and ride at a fairly fast pace. It fits her so well and she is able to move her shoulders so much better. She is very energetic now and she is twenty years old. The saddle feels very balanced and is so lightweight. The leather and workmanship is beautiful. Thank you so much for making a lovely saddle. Dear Kate and Staci,rnrnMy saddle just got here this afternoon, and as soon as I got home from work I got it out of the box and went to the barn to try it out! It’s utterly gorgeous, and the craftsmanship is amazing, everyone that saw it commented on how nice it looks. It fits my mare like a glove, nothing seems to be pinching or uncomfortable. We did a 7 mile trail ride, and I spilt away from the group to run for a bit and the saddle stayed perfectly in place, no sliding forward or back and no attempt to buck me off! Love our super lightweight endurance saddle! I’ve never had a better saddle, this is our 4th one. I’ve had saddles over $6000 that weren’t made as well!

Here is my Cascade Wade on my 25 year old mule Max. He’s still got his winter coat so I will post a picture again in June when he is shining. First ride I was instantly pleased at how comfortable the saddle is. It seems to fit just fine, and I REALLY like how light it is just 25.5 pounds
